Using our services help companies to prepare for the General Pharmaceutical Council inspection. It might be years before a pharmacy branch gets a GPhC visit. In that period, if bad practices are carried out , it might be years before they are spotted and corrected. Employing our services ensures an independent report to be made which identifies areas that need improvement. Pharmacies get opportunities to work on the areas identified and deliver better pharmacy service.
Superintendents, owners and area managers do not always have time to visit branches to understand what is happening in each pharmacy branch. It is practically impossible especially for big companies to expect the owner/superintendent to come round to individual branches to carry out inspections. Other companies have area managers to carry out inspections. Even in those companies we still identify areas of improvement, some very critical. Sometimes it takes an independent eye to understand the real picture of pharmacy practice. Companies may have good policies and procedures but that does not mean that those policies area being implemented. An example is that of a company that started to use a new dispensing system with the aim to reduce errors by about 80%. This system made the labelling and product assembly twice as long. We inspected several of the company branches and found staff deliberately overriding the new system to save time. The owner or the area managers would never have known. This was reported back to the company and the matter was resolved. The major corrective measure involved educating staff on the importance of reducing errors as patient safety was a priority.
Inspections are necessary to ensure safe pharmacy service are being delivered.
